Before 11 September 2001， China's academics and the general public have an isolated view on international affairs. However， after the horrendous and dreadful attack， the situation in China changed dramatically. The country divided into two camps， on one side the people believed that America deserved this tragedy for all the "sins" and injustices to others the American government has cumulated for years. In the other camp， the feelings were more sympathetic and condemnation of the cowardice acts of 911， and that the terrorists must be stopped and disposed of once and for all. The siding the Chinese people took after 911 has displayed an increased involvement of China， as a whole， in international affairs. This also paved way to the question， "Where is China heading and what kind of path will she take?"
